Linda and Archie Harris emerge victorious at Courtenay club event
The Courtenay Lawn Bowling Club green was full to capacity for the June 16-17 weekend as 32 teams took part in the Brazen Sportswear Scotch Pairs. The winners were hometown heroes Archie and Linda Harris. Runners-up were Sandi Mitchell and Scott Prior of Parksville. (This is Scott’s second year of bowling).
Games chair Peter Harding has devised a modification to a five-game, winner-play-winner format that works well with some very definite challenges to stamina and consistency of play. There were 15 teams from Parksville, and the other 17 teams represented Qualicum, Nanaimo, Port Alberni, Oak Bay and Courtenay.
Other A event runners-up were Rick and Lynn Britz , and Lynn Chwartecki and Brian Michell also of Parksville.
Qualicum and Nanaimo got in on the action in the B event, with Gavin and Pat Reid and Rick Quibell and Mary Mulligan taking those honours.
The Harding Modification gives us two winners in each category as the bowlers stay within their original draw of 16 teams.
Thanks to Peter Harding, who did all the paperwork and bowled as well, to the greens crew for a top-notch surface to bowl upon and the ladies of the kitchen who provided sustenance for the inner beasts in superb fashion.
On June 14 the Courtenay club hosted the Parksville Challenge, and I will do the resutlts and pictures of that in the next submission along with some club event results.
Travelers teams of, Vern Greenhill, Pete Harding, and Pat Cutt are off to Qualicum this weekend (June 23-24) for the men’s and ladies’ triples.
