Linda and Archie Harris win all five games to take title in competitive tournament.
Courtenay Lawn Bowling Club bowlers have done it yet again. Archie and Linda Harris won five out of five games to capture the North Island and Powell River Zone Pairs event, Sept. 15-16, in Courtenay. Courtenay lawn bowlers are leaving a good mark at out-of-town tournaments.
In Port Alberni on July 9-10 at the Ladies Pairs, April Gilchrist and Melie Ursulom took second place while Pat Cutt and Sandy Tonnelier were third as both teams lost only one game of four to the overall winners, Mary Mulligan and Frances Tester. Lawn Bowling: Michael Lynch and Ross Young silver. Melie Ursulom and Pat Cutt bronze.

As the season winds down, it sometimes seems to be speeding up. Courtenay lawn bowlers are still on the move and the clubhouse and green are being well used.
The green is in fabulous condition and bowling very fast. The Aug. 31-Sept. 1 weekend had the Club Singles championship and Ernest and Carolyn Kassian won the Novice events. Dean Penny won the Men’s with Vern Greenhill as runner-up, Pat Cutt took the Ladies with Melie Ursulom close behind. Pat Cutt
Special to the Record Daffodils are brightening the landscape with azalea and tulips soon to come….can lawn bowling be far behind? The Courtenay Lawn Bowling Club held the semi-annual general meeting on Sunday, April 10 with president Gaynor Bereza in the chair. Approximately 34 members were present to hear the plans for the coming season and vote on some, including a membership fee increase (first one in about 15 years or more) to $95 per season. Plenty of activities planned for local green in the months ahead
Courtenay Lawn Bowling greens crew, Archie Harris, Dan Bereza and Mike Kearns, is hard at work getting the green ready for another busy season. Opening Day is Sunday, April 29, starting at 2:30 p.m. Interested visitors are welcome to march around the green with the piper and witness the raising of the flag for the 17th time at this location. (23rd at Kilpatrick) at the entrance to Bill Moore Park, and roll a few bowls. Courtenay Lawn Bowling Club played host to 32 teams of mixed triples May 21-22 and six of those teams were on home turf.
The home turf did not help much as all of the prizes went to Parksville and Qualicum teams. Pat Cutt

Among the many competitors listed in this article, the Courtenay Lawn Bowling club is very proud to say that Canadian lawn bowling champ Vern Greenhill was at the world singles championship at Norfolk Island in Australia. Vern has bowled out of the Nanaimo Lawn Bowling Club and has been, and still is, a member of the Courtenay Lawn Bowling club for several years.
