Courtenay Lawn Bowling Club is a busy place.
Vern Greenhill's foursome in fine form at Nanaimo's Centennial Fours Our travelers this week were Vern Greenhill, taking his “Green Team” to first place in Nanaimo’s Centennial Fours, May 23-24, 2014. He had a different crew this time – faithful Melie Ursulom with Ross Younger and Jackie West added to the mix. Dean Penny also tried the different green with Carolle Allen, Cath and Don Wiseman. e Courtenay Lawn Bowling Club’s opening day on April 20 had 36 members out to bowl in spite of the cooler weather.
The march around the green followed Ernest Kassian on the violin and Dan Bereza on guitar, the parade being led by club president April Gilchrist and Mayor Jangula, treasurer Myrna Viers and Mayor Ives. Archie Harris hoisted the flag to the strains of O Canada and the mayors rolled the opening day bowls. Games chair- Pete Harding, winners skipped by Brenda Edwards
Pat Cutt The Courtenay Lawn Bowling green was filled almost to capacity May 17-18 with the Anderton Nurseries Triples Tournament. The five local teams, skipped by Vern Greenhill, Pat Cutt, Henri Saucier, Peter Harding and Dean Penny were very good hosts – no shows in the winners circle! The Edwards team from Parksville, Brenda and Wayne Edwards with Cheryl Baker, took the honours in fine form. The “Green Machine” is on a roll again.
Courtenay’s Lawn Bowling Club is #1 to start the season with Vern Greenhill, April Gilchrist and Melie Ursulom taking first-place honours at the Derek Shandley Mixed Triples event May 3-4 in Nanaimo. |
