Linda and Archie Harris win all five games to take title in competitive tournament
Courtenay Lawn Bowling Club bowlers have done it yet again.
Archie and Linda Harris won five out of five games to capture the North Island and Powell River Zone Pairs event, Sept. 15-16, in Courtenay. Wayne and Leone King of Qualicum were silver medalists.
This was a hard-fought tournament with club champions from Nanaimo, Parksville, Port Alberni, Powell River and Qualicum.
Thanks to Peter Harding for the scheduling and scorekeeping and Jackie West as umpire, the greens crew and the ladies in the kitchen for all doing their part to make the Courtenay venue a location that is a joy to the competitors.
Wednesday League has completed its schedule with Dean Penny, Marguerite Sklarchuk and John Kendall taking first place and Pat Chambers,
Cec Queen and Ed Talboom with the runner-up honors.
It is now all over but the Scotch Pairs, for a trophy donated by a true Scotch pair – Mary and Larry Adams, cousins of Linda Harris. This final event of the season goes Sept. 22-23. The awards night is Sept. 29; sign-up sheet is posted in the clubhouse.
Frank Lo and Dean Penny are not yet ready to give up while the green is bowling so well and the weather is so awesome. Check out their great plans for your entertainment while the 2-4-2 and Friday aggregate wind up their schedule.
Three of the six Zone trophies reside in the Courtenay clubhouse and some of our travelers have a great deal to be proud of. What a season!
