Participants aged 55 and over can compete in over 18 events including Lawn Bowling
Do you enjoy meeting people, participating in activities and even learning something new? Are you willing to challenge yourself and enjoy life to the best of your ability? If you have answered “Yes!” to these questions then why not add participating in the 2014 BC Seniors Games to your bucket list. Over 3,700 seniors aged 55-94 participated this year in Kamloops. Olga Kotelko, aged 94, was honored for her outstanding passion for the Games and she didn’t even start competing until she was 77 years old. Lawn Bowling: Michael Lynch and Ross Young silver. Courtenay lawn bowlers went south last week and got firsts, so we took more bowlers and went back for seconds, and that is what we got. Pat Cutt, Helen Ryley and Melie Ursulom got second in the A event of Ladies Triples in Qualicum, June 21-22, Vern Greenhill, Dean Penny and Henri Saucier got second in the B event of Men's Triples, and Jackie West, Carolle Allen and Sandy Tonnellier got second in the D event. Courtenay Lawn Bowling Club is gearing up, shifting gears and getting ready to roll with the Provincial Ladies Triples event on Friday, July 11. Dean Penny, Henri Saucier and Vern Greenhill are the Champions of the Seasoil Classic, Men’s Triples Parksville. Those Courtenay Lawn Bowlers are on a ROLL!
Lots of fun, games and costumes at Courtenay club's annual fundraiser Pat Cutt Special to the Record Courtenay Lawn Bowling Club had a fantastic Carnival Day on June 19. Carnival Day is a fundraiser to assist with clubhouse renovations in partnership with the City of Courtenay. Bowlers from Parksville, Qualicum and Powell River arrived (some in creative costume) to contribute their good spirits and sense of fun as well as their money to this cause.
Courtenay Lawn Bowling Club is a busy place.
Vern Greenhill's foursome in fine form at Nanaimo's Centennial Fours Our travelers this week were Vern Greenhill, taking his “Green Team” to first place in Nanaimo’s Centennial Fours, May 23-24, 2014. He had a different crew this time – faithful Melie Ursulom with Ross Younger and Jackie West added to the mix. Dean Penny also tried the different green with Carolle Allen, Cath and Don Wiseman. e Courtenay Lawn Bowling Club’s opening day on April 20 had 36 members out to bowl in spite of the cooler weather.
The march around the green followed Ernest Kassian on the violin and Dan Bereza on guitar, the parade being led by club president April Gilchrist and Mayor Jangula, treasurer Myrna Viers and Mayor Ives. Archie Harris hoisted the flag to the strains of O Canada and the mayors rolled the opening day bowls. Games chair- Pete Harding, winners skipped by Brenda Edwards
Pat Cutt The Courtenay Lawn Bowling green was filled almost to capacity May 17-18 with the Anderton Nurseries Triples Tournament. The five local teams, skipped by Vern Greenhill, Pat Cutt, Henri Saucier, Peter Harding and Dean Penny were very good hosts – no shows in the winners circle! The Edwards team from Parksville, Brenda and Wayne Edwards with Cheryl Baker, took the honours in fine form. |
