The “Green Machine” is on a roll again.
Courtenay’s Lawn Bowling Club is #1 to start the season with Vern Greenhill, April Gilchrist and Melie Ursulom taking first-place honours at the Derek Shandley Mixed Triples event May 3-4 in Nanaimo. For those who have never bowled and would like to try the game, there will be an open house on April 16 and 19 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. If you have concerns about back or knee problems, we have a tool, a UBI launcher. This item allows the bowler to remain upright while delivering the bowl.

As the season winds down, it sometimes seems to be speeding up. Courtenay lawn bowlers are still on the move and the clubhouse and green are being well used.
The green is in fabulous condition and bowling very fast. The Aug. 31-Sept. 1 weekend had the Club Singles championship and Ernest and Carolyn Kassian won the Novice events. Dean Penny won the Men’s with Vern Greenhill as runner-up, Pat Cutt took the Ladies with Melie Ursulom close behind. 8/10/2013 Lawn bowlers rocking and rollingCourtenay Lawn Bowling Club hosted The Chad’s Bar and Grill Fours tournament, Aug. 10-11. Twenty-two teams from the North Island Zone participated, with a few even in pirate costume.
The Jake Van Kooten team from Port Alberni consisting of Jake, his wife Elaine and Robin and Stephen Forrest were the only team to win all four games. 7/20/2013 Busy month for lawn bowlersThe lawn bowling season is halfway through, and July has been the busiest month of all.

Members compete at first open tournament; weekly leagues now underway. Courtenay Lawn Bowling Club has never before been so active so early. The green is in excellent condition for easy rolling and some of the groups have been rolling away for over a month now. Our spring this year has been optimum for early games. Pat Cutt

The Courtenay Lawn Bowling Club held the semi-annual general meeting on Sunday, April 10 with president Gaynor Bereza in the chair. Courtenay Lawn Bowling Club bowlers have done it yet again. Archie and Linda Harris won five out of five games to capture the North Island and Powell River Zone Pairs event, Sept. 15-16, in Courtenay. Wayne and Leone King of Qualicum were silver medalists. |
