Courtenay Lawn Bowling Club is a busy place.
Vern Greenhill's foursome in fine form at Nanaimo's Centennial Fours Our travelers this week were Vern Greenhill, taking his “Green Team” to first place in Nanaimo’s Centennial Fours, May 23-24, 2014. He had a different crew this time – faithful Melie Ursulom with Ross Younger and Jackie West added to the mix. Dean Penny also tried the different green with Carolle Allen, Cath and Don Wiseman. Pat Cutt The Courtenay Lawn Bowling green was filled almost to capacity May 17-18 with the Anderton Nurseries Triples Tournament. The five local teams, skipped by Vern Greenhill, Pat Cutt, Henri Saucier, Peter Harding and Dean Penny were very good hosts – no shows in the winners circle! The Edwards team from Parksville, Brenda and Wayne Edwards with Cheryl Baker, took the honours in fine form. The “Green Machine” is on a roll again.
Courtenay’s Lawn Bowling Club is #1 to start the season with Vern Greenhill, April Gilchrist and Melie Ursulom taking first-place honours at the Derek Shandley Mixed Triples event May 3-4 in Nanaimo. For those who have never bowled and would like to try the game, there will be an open house on April 16 and 19 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. If you have concerns about back or knee problems, we have a tool, a UBI launcher. This item allows the bowler to remain upright while delivering the bowl.

As the season winds down, it sometimes seems to be speeding up. Courtenay lawn bowlers are still on the move and the clubhouse and green are being well used.
The green is in fabulous condition and bowling very fast. The Aug. 31-Sept. 1 weekend had the Club Singles championship and Ernest and Carolyn Kassian won the Novice events. Dean Penny won the Men’s with Vern Greenhill as runner-up, Pat Cutt took the Ladies with Melie Ursulom close behind. 7/20/2013 Busy month for lawn bowlersThe lawn bowling season is halfway through, and July has been the busiest month of all.
Vern Greenhill, Rick Quibell and Mary Mulligan came through the five games of the July 20-21 Lakeside Gold Bowl in Nanaimo without a loss, defeating the Stu MacNaughton team from Parksville to take top spot. Locals do well at Powell River Mixed Triples tournament
Courtenay Lawn Bowling bowlers were in the money again in Powell River at the Aug. 8-9 Mixed Triples sponsored by Quality Foods. The heat goes on for Courtenay Lawn Bowling Club members. Vern Greenhill, Archie Harris and Melie Ursulom went through the Nanaimo’s Gold Bowl with four wins in five games to take third in the “A” event. Chad Kelly, Janet Butler and Pat Cutt and Peter Harding, Cath Wiseman and Dean Penny also made a creditable showing in a tough competition.
Heat continues at Courtenay Lawn Bowling Club 2011 - Google Docs Courtenay Lawn Bowling Club played host to 32 teams of mixed triples May 21-22 and six of those teams were on home turf.
The home turf did not help much as all of the prizes went to Parksville and Qualicum teams. |
