Courtenay Lawn Bowling club has completed another successful season. Membership numbers have grown and the new members have already demonstrated a fine and enthusiastic attitude toward the game and also the Club’s objectives.
The heat goes on for Courtenay Lawn Bowling Club members. Vern Greenhill, Archie Harris and Melie Ursulom went through the Nanaimo’s Gold Bowl with four wins in five games to take third in the “A” event. Chad Kelly, Janet Butler and Pat Cutt and Peter Harding, Cath Wiseman and Dean Penny also made a creditable showing in a tough competition.

Special to the Record Rain or shine, Courtenay Lawn Bowling Club members are continuing on their hot streak. Courtenay Lawn Bowling Club celebrated Canada Day in a big way as 45 members turned out to brave the “not very July” weather in red and white and flags all over.
The first event was bowling “in the river”, where the players must first bump the jack (little white ball) into the river (10-foot wide strip in the middle of the green) and then try to place their bowls in the “river” as well! Bowling distance is about 21 meters or less, which is some different from the usual distance and not easy to do on a green as fast as ours. Courtenay Lawn Bowling Club is running hot. Qualicum Ladies Triples felt the heat, June 25-26, as Pat Cutt, Irene Whitehouse and Melie Ursulom won three of four games to take first in “B” event while Jackie West, Carolle Allen and Pat Norrad also won three of four games to win the “C” event. Sandy Mitchell, Gloria Wilcox and Brenda Edwards of Parksville were the overall winners.

Pat Cutt Special to the Record Courtenay Lawn Bowling Club has now settled into a regular schedule of club events. June 5 was the date for a sumptuous Sunday afternoon tea after the bowling and was attended by approximately 25 bowlers. Thank you, Gaynor and Betty for all your preparations. Courtenay Lawn Bowling Club played host to 32 teams of mixed triples May 21-22 and six of those teams were on home turf.
The home turf did not help much as all of the prizes went to Parksville and Qualicum teams. Pat Cutt
Daffodils are brightening the landscape with azalea and tulips soon to come….can lawn bowling be far behind? The Courtenay Lawn Bowling Club held the semi-annual general meeting on Sunday, April 10 with president Gaynor Bereza in the chair. Approximately 34 members were present to hear the plans for the coming season and vote on some, including a membership fee increase (first one in about 15 years or more) to $95 per season. |
