The heat goes on for Courtenay Lawn Bowling Club members. Vern Greenhill, Archie Harris and Melie Ursulom went through the Nanaimo’s Gold Bowl with four wins in five games to take third in the “A” event. Chad Kelly, Janet Butler and Pat Cutt and Peter Harding, Cath Wiseman and Dean Penny also made a creditable showing in a tough competition.

Special to the Record Rain or shine, Courtenay Lawn Bowling Club members are continuing on their hot streak. Courtenay Lawn Bowling Club celebrated Canada Day in a big way as 45 members turned out to brave the “not very July” weather in red and white and flags all over.
The first event was bowling “in the river”, where the players must first bump the jack (little white ball) into the river (10-foot wide strip in the middle of the green) and then try to place their bowls in the “river” as well! Bowling distance is about 21 meters or less, which is some different from the usual distance and not easy to do on a green as fast as ours. |
