Courtenay Lawn Bowling Club is a busy place.
Vern Greenhill's foursome in fine form at Nanaimo's Centennial Fours Our travelers this week were Vern Greenhill, taking his “Green Team” to first place in Nanaimo’s Centennial Fours, May 23-24, 2014. He had a different crew this time – faithful Melie Ursulom with Ross Younger and Jackie West added to the mix. Dean Penny also tried the different green with Carolle Allen, Cath and Don Wiseman. Courtenay Lawn Bowling is off to a good start yet again this season. At the Qualicum Challenge 4s on May 12-13, Dan and Gaynor Bereza with Pete Harding and Pat Norrad claimed the trophy with four games won and 35 ends. Opening Day at the Courtenay Lawn Bowling Club had a great turnout to march around the green with the piper, sing O Canada with the flag-raising, and then 16 newcomers joined 28 regulars for a great game of Fours on a great surface. Comox mayor Ives and Cumberland mayor Baird threw the opening bowls as Courtenay mayor Jangula was a bit late. A good time was had by all. Courtenay Lawn Bowling Club played host to 32 teams of mixed triples May 21-22 and six of those teams were on home turf.
The home turf did not help much as all of the prizes went to Parksville and Qualicum teams. |
