History.
and a Slide Show from 2011 to 2024
Courtenay Lawn Bowling Club played host to 32 teams of mixed triples May 21-22 and six of those teams were on home turf. The home turf did not help much as all of the prizes went to Parksville and Qualicum teams. However, a good time was had by all and the winning team of Debbie and Jack Laurence with Diane Proctor of Parksville was the only team to win all four games. Ellen Presley of Anderton Nurseries was on hand to present the trophy with the assistance of CLBC president Gaynor Bereza.
Other prize monies went to three-game winners with one loss, with ends won being the first tiebreaker. There were six or seven teams in this category. The greens crew received a healthy and well-deserved round of applause as did the ladies in the kitchen. Thank you also to the Anderton Nurseries for the beautiful baskets and plants that adorned the clubhouse veranda. The Wednesday Night Mixed Triples League is set to get underway on June 1 and the Friday Night Aggregate starts May 27. Tuesday “Survivor” games give way to Mixed Pairs on Tuesday, June 7, while the Webber Singles starts on June 2. Players will have a couple of partners in this as one of the trio will do the “marking.” Games chair Peter Harding will explain this more thoroughly. Sounds like an excellent arrangement to solve the “marker” problem. Apologies to Jackie West, as her bright and shining face was missing from the champions picture of the President’s Cup winners. She was doing duty returning the Powell River players to the ferry. Some of our members will be attending a competitive bowlers seminar at Qualicum, May 27-28. This is is a program for bowlers who wish to improve their strategy and delivery skills. Sponsored by Bowls BC, it was originally intended for junior bowlers but the adults have found it beneficial as well. There is still room for new bowlers; call 250-338-8222 or drop around the green anytime. There are bowlers present to make arrangements for coaching.
